Still a Site About Many Things

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that if you want something to last, you have to be honest about what it is. For SinisterRabbit, that means being honest with myself, and with you, about what this site is, and what it isn’t.

At this point, I see this site as a personal look at the things that make me happy, both modern and nostalgic. Television, movies, video games, internet culture… it’s all fair game. I’m using this space as an opportunity to flex my creativity and improve my writing skills, all through the lens of pop culture.

First and foremost, this will not be a news site. The original SinisterRabbit tried to be one, and it quickly led to burnout. There are already plenty of places chasing clicks and breaking stories… that’s not what this site is for.

I’m also going to stay away from traditional reviews. They tend to attract the wrong kind of attention, and I want to keep things more positive around here. If I like something, I’ll write about it. If I don’t, I probably won’t, unless there’s a way to talk about it without turning it into a “hot take.”

And while I’ll likely touch on internet culture from time to time, I’m not interested in centering this site around modern social media. The one exception might be the Fediverse, which has caught my attention precisely because it feels closer to the old web. Smaller, quieter, and more community-driven.

Right now, I haven’t locked myself into a strict posting cadence. I’m excited to get things going, but I also know myself well enough to recognize that excitement can turn into overdoing it. For now, I’m aiming for one post a week, and I’ll adjust as I go.

I also haven’t decided what the “average” post on this site should look like. Some posts might be longer essays. Others might be shorter, just a way to get a thought out of my head and onto the page. At this stage, I’m leaving things open while I figure out what feels doable for the long term.

I’ve complained about missing the old internet for a while now, but complaining can only get me so far. Now it’s time for me to do my part to bring some version of that Wild West back. What I loved most about that time was the way we all owned our own little corner of the world, and the freedom that ownership offered.

Now it’s time to stretch some creative muscles that have been unused for a while and see where that takes me.

Chris is the writer behind SinisterRabbit, a quiet corner of the internet shaped by pop culture, memory, and cultural nostalgia.
